Bought another Coby CV-191 headset. Broke within a few days in the same way as the last. The adjustable extensions are made of plastic and snap easily. This break was in a position that allowed the headset to be used, less extended. Lasted another week or two before breaking.

So, the bottom line changes. NOT RECOMMENDED. The Coby headphones break too easily.

The trouble with your coming home is that we won't be getting any more of these nifty travelogues. I really appreciate your sharing it all with us. You'll have to teach me how before I go someplace again.
It'll be good to see you - have a safe healthy trip. Love, Mom

Probably 20 to 30 machines. All boys.

Shrine is a square blob. You gotta know what it looks like from the air. And, really, I just guessed about it. Looked ok, but not sure.

Taiwan is a palm tree place, so it's lush, for sure.

Agreed 'bout their pics. I'll tell 'em you said so, too.

What shrine? A second look at google maps did not help. I could not make out a shrine - to little detail. Does the shrine have a name?

The region looks quite lush and the water looks perfect for a swim. Are there any sand beaches (California style) for swimming or is the entire coast rocky?

Your friends at planetranger have not posted any pictures recently. I really like their photographs - hope to see more posts.

Hey ------ Scott just clued me in to your blog. Wow!
Re: unmaintained buildings. I noticed them too, but also realized the really bad examples were in heavy-duty earthquake country, hurricane territory, or places with an occasional tsunami. All of those could quickly change your mind set, as could mostly warm weather so a roof was mostly not essential to survival. Now the folks in Kashmir, they have real problems this year.

Word here is that Taipai is, indeed, a very safe city. Tokyo is the only place that gets higher marks, but Tokyo is apparently off the safeness scale.

No question that little dark alleys are not scary. In fact, I've eaten in at least one restaurant that can only be accessed thru the end of a tiny alley.

Taiway may be Ben Franklin land from the work ethic point of view, but it sure seems to be my kinda place so far as hours are concerned. Late to bed, late to rise. So, yes, late at night you'll see many, many unaccompanied women of all ages on any street. Latin America it ain't.

Not a lot of pregnant women to be seen, so I can't comment on that. But it sounds perfectly believable.
