HISTORICAL NOTE Albert Smith Robinson and Rena Ada Robinson spent a year or more in Canada after their marriage December 20, 1880. Just a year after the birth of Reginald in 1886, they left for Oregon. They went by train from Coleman, Michigan to Ludington, Michigan. At Ludington, they took a boat across Lake Michigan to Chicago. From Chicago, they took an immigrant train to Portland, Oregon. Seats in the train did not have cushions. Passengers brought along their own mattresses and also cooked their own meals. Albert S. Robinson had his first church (pastor) in Marion, Oregon (where ACR was born). This also included Turner and Pleasant Grove. His next church assignment was in Florence, Oregon. Access to Florence was made by stage - rough going, but best approach was by boat to and from Newport. The boat movement was subject to the tides. Tides had to be high enough to enable the boats to cross the bar at Florence on the Siuslaw River. Their next church appointment was in Spring Valley. This included Zena and McCoy, followed by several years' service at the Seaman's Institute in Portland. Then to the Tualatin Plains Church near Hillsboro, with additional churches at West Union and Reedville. The Hillsboro assignment was the well known Scotch Plains Presbyterian Church about three miles from Hillsboro. It was at this time that the children began their secondary and college work at Tualatin Academy and Pacific University in Forest Grove. Following the Hillsboro assignment - 9 years - he went to Portland as pastor of the Fulton Church. Later, he was pastor at the Kenilworth Church, both suburbs of Portland. The sequence of church assignments immediately after their marriage was as follows: Gainsboro, Canada; Cass City, Gladwin and Coleman, Michigan. Alexander C. & Dorothy P.
